Beaches and Food Kiosks

We returned for a second visit to Piñones via bus on a Sunday afternoon. Piñones is a ramshackled community along the north coast with no high rise buildings or traffic lights. It has a quaint local charm with food kiosks of all sizes that line the coastal road. The kiosks sell finger foods that represent Puerto Rico's greasy, crispy, artery-clogging contribution to fast food. They are meat and vegetable filled turnovers and fritters. There is a very long boardwalk along the ocean, past many beaches, and through the Bosque de Piñones (Piñones mangrove forest).

We ate at Kiosko El Boricua on our first trip to Piñones. 

Piononos are slices of ripe plantain stuck together with toothpicks and filled with seasoned chicken, beef, or fish and deep fried.

Chicken Pinchos and Arepa are grilled chicken kabobs with a special marinade and then topped with a small piece of flat bread.
